How to remove pet hair without making a bigger mess.

For sofas, black clothes, abayas and car seats, start dry and work in one direction. The goal is to lift loose hair before it gets pushed deeper into the fabric.

1. Start with a dry surface

Moisture can make loose hair cling to fabric. Let the surface dry, then remove larger clumps by hand before using a lint roller.

2. Use short, overlapping passes

Roll in one direction using light pressure. Short passes make it easier to see which areas are clean and avoid repeatedly working the same spot.

3. Test delicate fabrics first

On abayas, fine upholstery or loosely woven fabric, test a hidden area. Avoid damaged fabric, loose threads and surfaces that are not suitable for adhesive rollers.

4. Clean the car from top to bottom

Begin with seat backs, then cushions and floor mats. This keeps loosened hair from falling onto an area you already cleaned.

5. Store the roller covered

A cover keeps the sticky roll away from dust inside cupboards, drawers or the car. Replace the sheet when it no longer lifts hair effectively.
